If you have to go to the petrol station over the Easter weekend, you should avoid Good Friday. According to ÖAMTC, petrol prices are always highest on this day.

The mobility club has compared Easter petrol prices for the past four years. The result is clear.

Good Friday is the most expensive petrol day on the Easter weekend
If possible, you should not fill up your car with gasoline on Good Friday. In the past, prices on this day have been between 3.5 and 5.5 cents per litre—or one chocolate bunny per tank—higher than on Easter Sunday or Monday.

Anyone planning a longer car journey who therefore needs to fill up before the weekend should compare the prices very carefully. In addition to the recommendation to head for the cheapest petrol stations, the mobility club also advises drivers to drive with foresight and prudence. This will reduce consumption and help you enjoy a safe Easter weekend despite the increased volume of traffic.

Diesel was cheaper in March, and prices for superfuel increased
In general, petrol prices moved in opposite directions in March. The average price for diesel fell from €1.704 in February to €1.681 at present. Super, on the other hand, rose from €1.590 to €1.606 (up to and including March 26, 2024). Overall, this represents a decrease of 2.3 cents for diesel and an increase of 1.6 cents for super compared to February prices. This means that the gap of over 10 cents between the two main types of fuel has narrowed noticeably in recent months. Despite lower taxation, diesel remains 7.5 cents more expensive than super.
